Flic Duo: Smart Home Remote Control – Simplify Automation

by Rachel Kim – Technology Editor

A new device aiming to simplify smart home control, the Flic Duo, launched this week, offering users a physical alternative to voice commands and smartphone apps. The device, a small, wireless remote featuring two programmable buttons, allows users to trigger multiple smart home actions with a single press.

Unlike traditional smart home controls that typically manage a single function – such as a light switch controlling only a light – the Flic Duo is designed to orchestrate complex routines. A user could, for example, program one button to simultaneously dim lights, adjust a thermostat, and activate air purifiers, creating a customized nighttime scene. The device connects via Bluetooth to a Flic Hub, which then communicates with compatible smart devices.

Flic offers several hub options, including the Flic Hub Mini, designed for basic home automation, and the Flic Hub LR, which supports over 1,000 compatible devices and boasts a Bluetooth range of up to 50 meters (150 feet). The Flic Duo is part of a broader product line that includes the original Flic Button and Flic Twist, offering varied control methods for smart home ecosystems.

The potential applications for the Flic Duo extend beyond residential use. Flic is actively marketing its technology to industries including healthcare, hospitality, and logistics. In healthcare settings, the buttons can function as patient call systems or emergency alarms. Hotels are exploring their use as panic buttons for staff or service call buttons for guests. In logistics, the devices can be used for warehouse automation and fleet management safety systems.

The company highlights the device’s versatility, noting it can be mounted on a wall or carried as a portable remote. This portability allows for control from anywhere within the home, or even on the head. Flic also provides developer tools, including a mobile SDK and the Flic Hub Studio, enabling customization and integration with various platforms like Apple Home and Alexa.

The Flic Duo was previewed in late October 2025, and is now available for purchase. The company continues to expand its integrations and explore new applications for its button-based control system.
