Flavor Flav Launches GoFundMe for US Women’s Hockey Gold Medal Celebration
Las Vegas is set to host a celebratory weekend for the U.S. Women’s National Hockey Team, spearheaded by rapper Flavor Flav, following their gold medal victory at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics. Flav announced the “She Got Game” event, scheduled for July 16-19 in partnership with MGM Resorts and sports media brand The GIST, via his X account on Thursday.
The event aims to honor not only the hockey team, which defeated Canada 2-1 in overtime, but also other female Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Flav has concurrently launched a GoFundMe campaign to support the celebrations and provide ongoing assistance to the athletes, writing on X, “I’m hopeful this can have an impact beyond the weekend and help those that represent the best of the U.S.”
The team’s decision to accept Flav’s invitation came without prior consultation with USA Hockey, according to a person familiar with the discussions who spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity. While the players are enthusiastic about attending, potential scheduling conflicts may prevent the full 23-player roster from participating.
The team’s celebration plans have unfolded against a backdrop of political considerations. The U.S. Women’s Hockey Team, along with four other gold medal-winning teams, declined an invitation to visit the White House after USA Hockey cited logistical challenges in coordinating a visit with President Donald Trump following the men’s team’s appearance at the State of the Union address.
Flavor Flav’s support for women’s sports extends beyond this event. He was a visible presence at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Cortina d’Ampezzo and has previously provided financial assistance to female athletes, including discus thrower Veronica Fraley in 2024 and gymnast Jordan Chiles. Last year, Flav also initiated a fundraiser in collaboration with GoFundMe and the Black Music Action Coalition to aid Black families displaced by the Los Angeles wildfires, focusing on those impacted in Altadena.
The fundraiser for the wildfire victims prioritized assistance to a community with a long history of resilience in the face of systemic challenges, including segregation and redlining. Funds were distributed through a directory compiled by Community Aid Dena, AFROPUNK, and WalkGood LA.
