FIU Sweeps South Florida Invitational, Divers Qualify for NCAA Zones
MIAMI – Florida International UniversityS swimming and diving teams showcased impressive performances at the South Florida Invitational this weekend, highlighted by a dominant showing from the panther divers who secured multiple NCAA zone qualifying cuts. FIU also competed in a tri-meet against Florida Atlantic and Indian River State, achieving critically important splits and individual victories.
The Panthers‘ diving squad spearheaded the success, sweeping the platform event with Kristina Keenan leading the way, earning an NCAA Zone cut with a winning score of 257.75. Brooke Megdall (235.60) and Ruska Lehtonen (218.70) also achieved zone cut standards, finishing second and third respectively, while Sydney Soto placed fifth (203.95). this strong performance underscores FIU’s growing strength in diving, a crucial component of championship-level competition.
lehtonen further excelled,setting a personal best and qualifying for the NCAA Zone Championships in the 1-meter event with a score of 281.55.Keenan followed closely in second (276.60), and freshman Sofia Torstensson secured sixth place (236.10).
