Four Ways to Eat Indian Food for Weight Loss

Fitness coach Raj Ganpath has outlined four helpful strategies to incorporate Indian food into a weight loss plan. His advice, shared on social media, focuses on balancing meals, incorporating protein, optimizing fat consumption, and adjusting your mindset.

Raj suggests modifying meal composition to support weight loss efforts. He emphasizes adjusting the balance of nutrients within a meal.

“Your meals are probably high in carbohydrates, low in vegetables and even lower in protein. You can eat the same food, no problem. You just need to adjust the balance a bit, and that means you need to decrease the amount of carbohydrates that you are eating and replace that by increasing the amount of protein and vegetables,” Raj stated.

Raj believes protein should be a central part of daily eating habits. It’s easy to include protein sources like paneer, tofu, and meat in everyday dishes such as kootu, poriyal, and sabzi.

Optimize Fat Consumption

Raj recommends mindful fat intake. Indian cuisine often uses significant amounts of fat. He advises reducing the amount of oil and ghee used in cooking, assuring it won’t negatively affect the food’s taste.

“Indian food is amazing, yes. But the traditional Indian diet is a solution to a problem that does not exist anymore,” said Raj. “Back in the day, we used to move a lot, we needed a lot of energy, and so we ate a lot of carbs and fats. Today, we hardly move, we are overfed and undernourished. So what we really need is protein and vegetables. This change is absolutely necessary. So acknowledge the fact that times are change, accept it, and evolve.”
