by Priya Shah – Business Editor

A critically important temperature drop is forecast to bring the first ‍widespread freeze of the season to⁢ South Carolina, potentially impacting agriculture and vulnerable populations. Temperatures ⁤are expected to plummet by‍ as ‌much as 50 degrees⁤ Fahrenheit within a 24-hour period, beginning November 7, 2025.

The National weather Service has issued freeze warnings and frost advisories for⁤ much of the state, extending from⁣ the Upstate to the Lowcountry. This rapid cooling poses a threat to late-season ⁢crops, including citrus⁣ and vegetables, and could endanger livestock and pets. Residents are⁣ urged to take precautions ‍to protect sensitive plants, wrap exposed pipes, and ensure adequate shelter for animals.

The dramatic shift in weather is attributed to an Arctic air mass moving southward across the eastern United States.High temperatures on November 6, 2025, reached ⁣into the 70s in some areas, but⁣ by November 8, 2025, lows are predicted ‌to ‌dip into the 20s and⁣ low 30s statewide. The most significant freeze risk will be overnight,⁣ with temperatures remaining below freezing for several ⁢hours in manny locations.

A Freeze Warning means near-freezing temperatures are expected or occurring. these conditions typically⁤ kill crops and can damage outdoor water pipes. A Frost‍ Advisory means ⁣widespread ‌frost ⁢is expected⁤ overnight. While frost can damage sensitive plants, it is generally less severe than a freeze.

South Carolina’s agricultural sector contributes billions to the state’s economy annually. A hard freeze can cause substantial losses for farmers, particularly those ‌growing winter crops. State officials‍ are advising growers to implement protective‌ measures, such as ‌covering plants or utilizing irrigation to ⁣prevent freezing.
