Updated august 25, 2025 – In ⁢a startling public health ‍advancement,‌ the United States has‍ confirmed its first human case of​ New ‍World‌ screwworm infection in over ​six ⁤decades. The Maryland resident contracted the parasitic infestation after ‌traveling to El Salvador, according to the U.S.⁣ Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
