Madison Elects First Asian-American Mayor, Sara Bartlett, Focused on Managed Growth
Madison, Alabama - Sara Bartlett has been elected as the city’s first Asian-American mayor, outlining a vision for “controlled and planned growth” as the city experiences rapid expansion. Bartlett, who previously sought a position on the school board and was initially rejected, used the experience as motivation to deepen her community involvement.
“Sometimes you don’t get a job or a position the first time, and it doesn’t mean you haven’t succeeded,” Bartlett said. ”It just means you haven’t done it yet.” She spent the subsequent three to four years serving on additional school system committees, ultimately becoming a stronger candidate upon reapplying for the school board.
Now, as mayor, Bartlett aims to ensure adequate resources for all residents, with continued investment in both the city’s school system and economic progress projects.she alluded to upcoming commercial development projects designed to increase tax revenue for essential city services like roads and police.
“We wanted to see more commercial development as that generates more tax revenue for the city, and that helps us pay for roads and police and all the things that you know you want a city to help pay for for the residents,” Bartlett explained.
Bartlett expressed her dedication to Madison, stating her intention to continue as the city’s “biggest cheerleader” and reciprocate the opportunities it has provided her family. She drew inspiration from Condoleezza Rice, quoting, “People who end up being ‘first’ don’t actually set out to be first. They set out to do something they love.”
“I love Madison, and I think people know that,” Bartlett said. “I have volunteered countless hours hear and have served the public in multiple roles.I am grateful for the prospect to serve as mayor and represent.”
