A cause has been identified for a minor fire that broke out Sunday evening at the waste collection tank on Tusenårsplassen, near the high-speed ferry terminal in Hareid, Norway. Fire crews responded quickly to reports of smoke emanating from the facility.

According to Sunnmørsposten, the incident occurred late Sunday night. Authorities have not disclosed the specific cause of the fire, only confirming that it has been determined.

Elsewhere in the region, the Ålesund fire department responded to a separate, smaller incident six hours ago, investigating a fire in a trash can in the outer district of Ålesund. An eyewitness reported seeing smoke rising from what appeared to be a veranda. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and confirmed it had not spread, though they continued to check for any remaining embers. The trash can is associated with a housing cooperative.

Steffen Leganger of the 110-central (emergency dispatch) stated that the fire in Ålesund was extinguished, but crews remained on scene to ensure it did not reignite. Police were also present in the area following the fire department’s departure at approximately 7:20 PM local time.

These incidents are among several recent fire-related responses documented by Sunnmørsposten, including a previous incident at a school, a terrain fire on Hareid, a chimney fire, and a fire on Valderøya. A separate incident involving a fire in a car was also reported recently.
