Federal Government Not Demanding Enough: Remi Villemure’s Commentary

by Rachel Kim – Technology Editor

Quebec commentator Rémi Villemure criticized the federal government’s approach to provincial concerns during a segment on BLVD 102.1 radio on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. Villemure’s commentary, titled “On est pas assez exigeant envers le fédéral!” (We are not demanding enough of the federal government!), aired as part of the “On en Jase” program.

The broadcast followed a day of discussion surrounding potential infrastructure projects in Quebec, including debate over a proposed third link connecting the north and south shores of the St. Lawrence River. Christine Fréchette, a candidate for the leadership of the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ), appeared earlier in the program to discuss her position on the project, according to BLVD’s broadcast schedule.

Villemure’s critique comes amid ongoing discussions about federal-provincial relations and Quebec’s autonomy. He has previously published the book Ne jamais se taire (Never Be Silent) in 2024, focusing on issues of Quebec identity and the French language, signaling a consistent interest in provincial affairs. He also hosts the podcast “Il reste du monde” and contributes to 99.5 Montréal, according to his profile on Les Agents Doubles Productions.

The radio program also featured segments on inflation in Quebec, with a discussion of why We see higher than in other regions and a segment on lobbying regulations, featuring an interview with Jean-François Routhier, the Commissioner of Lobbying. Another segment explored whether businesses would participate in the proposed third link project.

Villemure’s commentary was preceded by a segment featuring Marie-Josée Morency, CEO of the Lévis Chamber of Commerce, who stated that Fréchette was the first politician to consult with the chamber. The program also included a segment with Marc Bellemare, a lawyer, as part of “Marceau le Soir.”

According to Facebook posts, Villemure recently joined the BLVD 102.1 team and had previously been interviewed on the “Whats Up” program, where he discussed the decline of Québec solidaire and the Parti Québécois’s attempts to reposition itself to the right.
