Urgent Recall of Fresh & Ready Foods Products Due too undeclared Allergens
San Fernando, California – Fresh & Ready Foods has initiated a recall of several ready-to-eat products due to the presence of undeclared milk and wheat, posing a meaningful health risk to individuals with allergies to these ingredients. The initial voluntary withdrawal on August 13th escalated to a “Class I” warning from the Food and Drug Management (FDA) on September 16th.
A Class I recall signifies a “reasonable probability that the use or exposure to the violation product causes serious adverse health consequences or death,” according to the FDA. This high-severity classification underscores the danger,as milk and wheat are two of the nine most common food allergens in the United States.
Federal regulations, enforced by the FDA and the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the Department of Agriculture, mandate the complete and accurate listing of all ingredients on food labels. This facts is crucial for the growing number of Americans affected by food allergies. Currently, 33 million Americans live with at least one food allergy, including 6.2 million with milk allergies and 2.4 million with wheat allergies, according to the Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) institution.
Allergic reactions can range from mild symptoms like hives or lip swelling to life-threatening complications such as anaphylaxis, a severe reaction that can cause fatal respiratory distress. therefore, the failure to declare these common allergens on product labeling is a serious violation with potentially severe consequences.
