Fátima Bosch Controversy: Pemex Contract and Investigation Details

Controversy Surrounds Miss universe Mexico Winner Fátima Bosch Due to Father’s Ties to Pemex

The recent victory of Fátima Bosch Fernández as Miss Universe Mexico is facing scrutiny following revelations about her father’s professional connections and a contract between a company linked to the state-owned oil company Pemex and a business associate of the Governor of Tabasco, Raúl Rocha.

Pemex has issued a statement clarifying it “has no interference with the directors of the Miss Universe international contest” and that its congratulatory post to Bosch was a gesture of public enthusiasm. Though, the timing of these events, coupled with the disclosed contract, has fueled allegations of potential political influence in the competition’s outcome.

According to Pemex, a contract for 745.6 million pesos (approximately $40 million USD) was signed in February 2023 with Servicios PJP4 de México SA de CV and Soluciones Gasificadores del Sur SA de CV. The contract lasted 11 months and is no longer active. This occurred while Bernardo Bosch Hernández, Fátima Bosch’s father, held a management position within the companies.

The revelations have sparked accusations of impropriety. Omar Harfouch publicly alleged “manipulation” within the jury in favor of Bosch.

Further complicating the situation, Reforma newspaper reported that Bernardo Bosch Hernández was previously investigated by the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) for alleged illicit enrichment of 6 million 534 thousand 640 pesos (roughly $353,000 USD). Though, the FGR steadfast in 2022 that there was no evidence to support the claim.

The combination of Pemex’s congratulatory message, the contract with a company associated with Governor Rocha, and the history of examination into Bosch’s father have raised questions about the fairness and legitimacy of Fátima Bosch’s win.
