Phoenix, AZ – A father has been arrested and faces multiple felony charges after his four children were discovered inside a sweltering vehicle on a July afternoon. The incident, which occurred near 24th and Madison streets, has prompted a police inquiry into child endangerment.
Phoenix Police responded to a call around 3:40 p.m. on July 24, reporting children left unattended in a car. Upon arrival, officers found the children inside a vehicle that was turned off, with all windows completely closed. The interior temperature of the car was estimated to be around 125 degrees Fahrenheit.
Emergency services were instantly dispatched. Officers were able to safely remove the children from the vehicle, providing them with water and placing them in a patrol car with running air conditioning.Phoenix fire Department personnel attended to the children, whose body temperatures were recorded near 100 degrees. All four children were transported to a local hospital for treatment and are expected to make a full recovery.
Investigators located the children’s father, identified as 38-year-old ascencio Largo, inside a nearby business. Records indicate he had entered the establishment approximately one hour before police arrived. Largo was subsequently arrested and booked on eight felony charges. The Department of Child Safety has been notified and is conducting a parallel investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
