Morocco currently boasts the fastest mobile internet speeds in Africa, clocking in at 123.87 Mbps, according to the latest data from the Speedtest Global Index. This positions the North African nation ahead of many countries worldwide in terms of mobile connectivity.

The ranking, which reflects significant investment in telecommunications infrastructure and the expansion of 4G networks, highlights Morocco’s growing role as a digital innovation hub. Its fixed broadband performance is also robust, with download speeds of 56.27 Mbps and uploads at 53.35 Mbps, and a low latency of 9 milliseconds – crucial for online gaming and streaming services. Morocco’s fixed broadband ranks 105th globally.

Following Morocco, South Africa secures the second position in Africa with a mobile internet speed of 65.70 Mbps, placing it 64th globally. South Africa’s fixed broadband offers download speeds of 48.34 Mbps and uploads of 39.15 Mbps, with a very low latency of 7 ms, making it a reliable option for businesses and remote work.

Tunisia ranks third in Africa, offering mobile speeds of 57.30 Mbps. Although, its fixed broadband lags behind, with downloads averaging 18.88 Mbps and uploads at 7.32 Mbps, ranking 145th globally. Latency in Tunisia is moderate at 20 ms.

Algeria demonstrates strong mobile performance at 50.65 Mbps and fixed broadband download speeds of 53.62 Mbps, with uploads at 20.44 Mbps. The country’s global rank is 109th for fixed broadband, and latency is a low 7 ms.

Completing the top five is Kenya, with mobile internet speeds reaching 45.37 Mbps. Kenya’s fixed broadband ranks 149th globally, averaging 15.70 Mbps for downloads and 16.24 Mbps for uploads, with a latency of 10 ms. Kenya’s digital ecosystem is notably mobile-first, driven by widespread smartphone adoption and the popularity of mobile money platforms like M-Pesa.
