SpaceX Launches 28 Starlink Satellites, Boosting Global Internet Access
Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, FL – SpaceX successfully launched 28 Starlink internet satellites into orbit today (September 6, 2024) from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. The launch, carried out by a falcon 9 rocket, marks the company’s 119th orbital launch this year and further expands the Starlink constellation, aiming to provide high-speed, low-latency internet access to underserved areas around the globe.
This mission utilized Booster 1085, a veteran Falcon 9 first stage that has flown on seven previous missions. The successful deployment of these satellites contributes to Starlink’s growing network, which currently serves millions of users in over 60 countries. SpaceX continues to refine the constellation, enhancing its capacity and coverage to meet increasing demand for reliable internet connectivity, particularly in remote and rural locations.
The Falcon 9’s upper stage released the 28 Starlink satellites approximately one hour and two minutes after liftoff. These satellites will begin maneuvering to their designated orbits, joining the thousands already providing service. SpaceX has also conducted four other launches this year involving suborbital test flights of Starship, its next-generation rocket designed for deep space exploration, including missions to Mars.
The most recent Starship launch – the 10th overall - occurred on August 26 and was deemed a complete success by SpaceX, marking notable progress in the growth of this ambitious vehicle.
