Fake Police Officer Detained at‍ Nyugati Square Metro Station

A man posing as ⁤a police officer was apprehended at the⁣ Nyugati Square Metro Station on September 13th, according to⁢ a post‍ from the State Secretariat for Law Enforcement. The incident was initially brought to‌ the attention of authorities⁢ by a ⁢sharp-eyed 16-year-old high school student from Füzesgyarmat, who is preparing to attend the National⁢ University of ‌Public Service.

The 42-year-old man, employed as a security guard, was wearing a genuine police uniform, but with several inconsistencies. While ⁢the uniform ⁤itself was authentic, it featured aftermarket BRFK‌ (Budapest ⁣Police⁣ headquarters) markings and Velcro-attached “Police” patches instead of proper identification. The most telling flaw was a ⁤badge displaying the word “Police” were an identification number should have been.

The⁤ student⁢ noticed the‍ discrepancies and alerted real police officers. When questioned about his attire, the man claimed he had “shot with ‍my girlfriend” and stated he purchased the uniform for 30,000 forints from⁣ a retired police officer. He asserted he had not worn the uniform in public⁣ before ⁢and wouldn’t in the future,⁣ as‌ it was subsequently confiscated.

According to the State Secretariat’s post, ⁤the man was also ⁤reportedly called to attention ⁢in the metro underpass with a ‌false report of someone wielding a knife, to⁣ which he ‍responded, “The colleagues are coming.”

The man was fined 104,000 forints by the Budapest Police ⁣Headquarters⁤ VI. District Police Department for misuse⁣ of unauthorized ⁣address.
