F1 Bahrain Test: Day 1 – Teams Hit the Track

Formula 1 teams completed the first day of pre-season testing at the Bahrain International Circuit on Wednesday, offering the first full-track glimpse of the 2026 grid. Whereas teams conducted limited running at the Barcelona circuit last month, that event was a closed session, and Williams Racing was notably absent due to delays in the construction of their new car.

The Bahrain test marks a crucial period for teams to refine their car setups and gather data ahead of the season-opening race, as well in Bahrain, on March 6th. Wednesday’s running focused on systems checks and initial aerodynamic evaluations.

James Vowles, Team Principal of Williams Racing, reported a positive atmosphere within the team as they finally hit the track. “Mood has lifted,” Vowles stated, according to reports. The team’s late arrival to pre-season preparations had created a sense of urgency, but Wednesday’s successful track time appears to have alleviated some of that pressure.

One unexpected highlight of the test has been the attention garnered by Williams’ new garage screen. The large display, intended to provide real-time data to the team, has become a talking point among fans and observers.

The initial test session also provided an early indication of performance levels, though teams were quick to caution against drawing definitive conclusions. The focus remained on reliability and data collection rather than outright pace. Several teams experienced minor technical issues, typical for the first day of testing, but no major incidents were reported.

The Bahrain test continues through Friday, with teams scheduled to increase their mileage and begin more detailed performance assessments. The results of these tests will be closely scrutinized as teams prepare for the start of the 2026 Formula 1 season.
