F1 2026 Testing: Ferrari’s New Exhaust & Bahrain Tech Talk

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

Formula 1 teams continued preparations for the 2026 season with a second and final pre-season test at the Bahrain International Circuit on Wednesday. Focus centered on technical developments, with Ferrari drawing attention for a newly implemented exhaust wing design.

F1 TV’s technical expert Sam Collins analyzed the upgrades observed across the pit lane, highlighting Ferrari’s innovative approach to exhaust management. The specific performance gains anticipated from the exhaust wing remain under evaluation, but the design suggests a concerted effort to optimize aerodynamic efficiency.

The Bahrain International Circuit, which first hosted a Formula 1 Grand Prix in 2004, has become a key venue for pre-season testing due to its challenging track layout and representative weather conditions. The 5.412km circuit presents a unique set of challenges for teams, including a tight, downhill, off-camber Turn 10 and a fast run through Turn 12, demanding precise car setup and driver skill.

Wednesday’s testing followed a busy second day on Tuesday, where Charles Leclerc of Ferrari and Lando Norris of McLaren topped the timesheets. Norris completed an impressive 149 laps, equivalent to nearly three full Grand Prix distances, demonstrating McLaren’s commitment to maximizing track time and data collection. However, the day wasn’t without issues, as Red Bull Racing experienced a hydraulic leak on Isack Hadjar’s car, disrupting their testing program.

Mercedes similarly encountered challenges during the test, with reports of issues requiring attention. These early setbacks underscore the complexity of the new 2026 regulations and the ongoing process of refining the latest generation of Formula 1 cars.

The Bahrain International Circuit offers a range of motorsport experiences beyond Formula 1, including the FIA World Endurance Championship’s 8 Hours of Bahrain. The circuit also provides opportunities for karting, off-road adventures, and corporate events, solidifying its position as a leading motorsport and entertainment venue in the Middle East.

Tickets for the 2026 Bahrain Grand Prix, scheduled for April 10th to 12th, are currently available. The race weekend will feature practice sessions on April 10th, qualifying on April 11th, and the Grand Prix itself on April 12th.
