Exclusive Clip Released for Kid Koala’s Space Cadet
Astronaut Celeste faces a swarming attack from strange blue aliens in a newly released exclusive clip from the upcoming dialogue-free animated feature Space Cadet, slated to hit select theaters on November 13, animationmagazine.net reported.
Viva Kids brings the 86-minute feature to domestic audiences following a festival run that included stops at the Berlin International Film Festival, Annecy, and the Toronto International Film Festival, according to animationmagazine.net. Based on the 2011 graphic novel by Eric San, known professionally as Kid Koala, the film marks his directorial debut.
Interstellar Solitude and the Journey to Screen
The narrative follows Celeste launching into her first solo mission while leaving behind Robot, the guardian who raised her. As awn.com reported, memory serves as their only compass while Robot faces an empty nest and Celeste travels through the perils of space. The feature unfolds entirely through imagery and an original score composed by Kid Koala alongside Karen O, Emilíana Torrini, Mariana “Ladybug” Vieira, Martha Wainwright, Meagan Smith, and Trixie Whitley.
Outsiders Films produced the Canadian project, with stop-motion-inspired 3D CG animation delivered by Singing Frog in Montreal. Ginette Petit produced the film, while Petit, Nathalie Bissonnette, and Michel Pradier served as executive producers. Mylène Chollet wrote the screenplay, Lillian Chan worked as production designer, and Corinne Merrell served as art director.
Space Cadet Wins Multiple Festival Awards Before Theatrical Release
Before its November theatrical rollout, Space Cadet accumulated several honors on the festival circuit. The Festival de cinéma en famille de Québec awarded the production the professional jury prizes for Best Film and Best Director, alongside the youth jury prize for Best Original Score, as awn.com noted. The film also secured a special mention in the Discoveries competition at Poland’s Young Horizons International Film Festival and earned the 2026 Young Jury Award at the Rendez-vous du Cinéma Québécois.

Viva Kids handles distribution for the feature, adding it to a slate that previously included The Amazing Maurice, Night of the Zoopocalypse, and The Pout-Pout Fish, as detailed by awn.com.
