Navigating New Relationships

Honoria fondly recalls her first date with Dries, admitting her immediate attraction. Aware of his recent divorce, she prioritized openness with his sons, Dave and Donny. She ensured her presence was supportive, allowing the boys to maintain their closeness with their mother if they preferred.

Her primary concern was minimizing any tension for the children, who had not asked for the divorce or a new person in their father’s life. The transition was smooth, with no initial friction between Honoria and Lucienne. Much of their early contact occurred indirectly, as Lucienne and Dries were not on speaking terms.

“Now I also call Lucienne spontaneously when I’m with something or when I have irritations with Dries.”

Deepening Friendship Through Shared Challenges

The bond between the two women has strengthened over time. Honoria now relies on Lucienne‘s insights into Dries, stating, If there is anyone who knows him better, it is she. Lucienne expressed deep appreciation for Honoria‘s care for her sons, noting, What she has done and still does for those guys is really fantastic. She pointed to Dave having Honoria‘s birthday tattooed on his body as a testament to their connection.

Shared difficulties, including Dave‘s addiction struggles and treatment, and Donny‘s health battles, have solidified their friendship. We called each other almost daily during that period. We are now good friends. We see each other every week, often call and I regularly rock for a cup of coffee. Lucienne shared.

The family’s relationships are showcased in a reality series, which also features daughter-in-law Marijn.

Family Connections Extend to Grandchildren

Both Lucienne and Honoria share affection for Dean, Dave‘s son. Due to Dave‘s relationship changes, Dean spends weekends with his father, and Honoria often joins them after work on Fridays. Sunday mornings frequently involve coffee with Lucienne, creating a sense of domestic warmth.

Honoria, who has no biological children, finds immense value in her relationship with Dave and Donny. Those guys have a special place in my heart. The fact that they can bear the title of grandma will remain special. she stated.
