Shrek & Crew to Headline 2025 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with New Balloon Debut
new York,NY – the 2025 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will feature a colossal new balloon depicting Shrek’s iconic onion carriage,bringing the beloved DreamWorks characters to life for millions of spectators. This marks an expanded presence for the “Shrek” franchise, previously represented by solo Shrek balloons in past parades, and introduces the entire family to the annual tradition.
The addition of Shrek, Fiona, their children Fergus, Farkle, and Felicia, and Donkey as a balloon ensemble underscores the enduring popularity of the franchise ahead of the release of a fifth “Shrek” film in 2027. The parade appearance coincides with the annual broadcast of the holiday special “Shrek the Halls” on NBC, continuing a decade-long tradition for many families.
The massive balloon, designed to evoke a family road trip from the Kingdom of Far Far Away to manhattan, will join a lineup of new balloons debuting at the 2025 parade. the first three “Shrek” films,along with related shorts and specials,are currently available for streaming on Peacock.
“Shrek the Halls” will air on NBC on Tuesday,December 9 at 8:30/7:30c,with a repeat broadcast scheduled for Tuesday,December 17 at 8 pm. The upcoming fifth installment of the “Shrek” franchise will feature the return of Mike Myers, cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy in their original roles, alongside newcomer Zendaya voicing Felicia.
