Joe Manganiello and Caitlin O’Connor have traded the Hollywood Hills for the Steel city, relocating from Los Angeles to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in November 2024. The move marks a meaningful shift for the actor and his wife, signaling a desire for a change of pace and a return to Manganiello’s roots.
“I had my whole adult life here,” Manganiello told Marie Claire in November 2024 about leaving Los Angeles. “But even before [the pandemic] it was changing. The vibe was different. And then covid happened, and it pushed it over the edge. Whether it’s the homelessness or the taxes, not that I want to s–t on California-it just feels like this chapter in my life is done now.”
The couple, along with their son Santiago, have been spending increasing amounts of time in Pennsylvania, ultimately deciding to make it their primary residence. “I’m privileged,” manganiello continued. “I get to escape and go somewhere. Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian contry, and my anxiety and sadness is for them.”
Despite speculation, manganiello clarified the move wasn’t politically motivated. “I didn’t leave because of the political habitat,” the actor explained on The View: behind the Table podcast in November 2024. ”I left as my work took me there as Land of Women-shooting six months in catalonia, then four months in Mexico for Searching for Mexico then back to spain. Now I’ve been there for years. So I just don’t like that it’s politicized.”
Manganiello, known for roles in True Blood and the Fast & Furious franchise, was born in Pittsburgh and remains a devoted fan of the city’s sports teams. He has continued to pursue acting projects since the relocation, with recent roles including appearances in Only Murders in the Building and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip.
