A Vega C rocket successfully launched from South america late Friday,carrying vital satellites designed to observe Earth and measure carbon dioxide levels.
The Arianespace-operated rocket departed the Guiana Space Centre at 11:03 pm local time, carrying five satellites for Airbus Defense and space and France’s National Centre for Space Studies (CNES).
Mission Objectives and Capabilities
The Earth-mapping constellation aboard the Vega C is engineered to deliver high-resolution, three-dimensional global imaging for a minimum of six years.
Additionally, one satellite is dedicated to quantifying the sources and sinks of carbon dioxide, a key greenhouse gas, according to CNES.
Arianespace CEO David Cavailloles highlighted the satellite’s importance as a tool for understanding global warming, with an anticipated operational lifespan of at least five years.
