ESPN Football Power Index Predicts Alabama’s Remaining 2026 Schedule and Playoff Odds

October 29, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

Heading into a Week 9 bye for the 2026 college football season, the Alabama Crimson Tide hold a 6-2 overall record and a 4-2 SEC standing, with ESPN Analytics giving the program a 63.1% probability of reaching the 12-team College Football Playoff, rolltidewire.usatoday.com reported.

Tracking the Remaining 2026 Regular Season Matchups

The Crimson Tide sit at No. 5 nationally in ESPN’s Football Power Index with a 24.5 rating. Following the bye week, Alabama faces four remaining regular-season games before the postseason picture settles. The schedule resumes with a road trip to Baton Rouge to face the LSU Tigers on Nov. 7 at Tiger Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT with broadcast coverage on ABC.

Oddsmakers opened Alabama as a 2.5-point underdog against LSU. ESPN’s matchup predictor gives the Tigers a 55.1% chance to win, while the Crimson Tide hold a 44.9% edge in the model. LSU enters the matchup following a 38-17 victory over Auburn, where quarterback Sam Leavitt threw for 387 yards and three touchdowns.

Following the contest at Tiger Stadium, Alabama travels to Nashville to play the Vanderbilt Commodores on Nov. 14 at FirstBank Stadium. ESPN’s metrics heavily favor the Crimson Tide in that matchup with a 94% win probability, compared to 6% for Vanderbilt. Home games close out the November slate, starting with an FCS matchup against the Chattanooga Mocs on Nov. 21 at Bryant-Denny Stadium, where Alabama commands a 99% win probability in the predictor model. The regular season concludes with the annual Iron Bowl rivalry game against the Auburn Tigers on Nov. 28 in Tuscaloosa. ESPN’s predictor gives Alabama an 85.5% chance to secure a victory against Auburn.

Injury Concerns and Roster Depth During the Bye

The mid-season break arrives as Alabama works to heal multiple positional injuries across the roster, rolltidewire.usatoday.com reported. Sliced-up depth has affected several key contributors, including wide receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams, starting offensive linemen Racin Delgatty and Will Sanders, freshman running back EJ Crowell, defensive back Zabien Brown, and defensive tackle Terrance Green.

The injury management comes on the heels of a 31-20 win over Texas A&M in Week 7. During that contest, quarterback Keelon Russell completed 19 of 30 passes for 311 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. Trailing entering the fourth quarter, Russell connected with tight ends Marshall Pritchett and Kaleb Edwards for scores, while the defense shut down the Aggies by not allowing a first down in the final 15 minutes. Wide receiver Rico Scott stepped up in the absence of Coleman-Williams, recording six catches for a career-high 156 yards.

Alabama Sees Playoff Odds Rise to 63.1%

Alabama’s playoff outlook shifted following the win against Texas A&M, with the FPI calculating a 63.1% chance of securing a spot in the 12-team field, up from 49.5% the previous week. The Crimson Tide currently possess the sixth-best odds among power conference teams and Notre Dame, trailing only Georgia within the SEC. Metrics also assign a 16% chance for an SEC championship, a 12.9% chance of reaching the national title game on Jan. 25 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, and a 6.2% probability of claiming the national championship.

Across the 16-team Southeastern Conference, the latest FPI updates place the Georgia Bulldogs at No. 1 with a 26.5 rating, followed by Alabama at No. 2 with 24.5. The Texas Longhorns and LSU Tigers share the third spot at 24.0, while the Vanderbilt Commodores sit last in the conference rankings with a 0.3 FPI rating.
