Macron Hails hamas’ Agreement as “Decisive Chance” for Gaza Peace
PARIS – French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed Hamas’ agreement too a ceasefire proposal as a “decisive opportunity” to end the ongoing conflict in Gaza, joining a chorus of international voices reacting to the growth. The move comes after Hamas responded to a peace plan initially proposed by former U.S. President Donald Trump, offering a potential pathway to de-escalation after months of intense fighting.
The agreement, which includes a ceasefire, the release of hostages held in Gaza within 72 hours, and the disarmament of Hamas, represents a critical juncture in the conflict. While details remain fluid and Hamas leadership has described the proposal as “vague” and “ambiguous”, demanding further negotiations, the initial acceptance has spurred cautious optimism among mediators and world leaders. The situation impacts the lives of millions in gaza and Israel, and the success of this plan could determine the long-term stability of the region.
Qatar, a key mediator between Israel and Hamas, offered congratulations on the “Approval” of the plan. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres expressed he was “Encouraged” by the response and urged all parties to “seize this opportunity to put an end to this tragic conflict.”
Donald trump immediately called for Israel to “Immediately stop bombing” in Gaza to facilitate the swift and safe evacuation of hostages. He stated his belief that Hamas was “Ready for lasting peace.” however, Mahmoud Mardawi, a Hamas leader, indicated the movement seeks additional discussions despite the initial acceptance.
