Assistant Director Dies on ‘Emily in Paris’ Set in​ Venice

An assistant director working on the Netflix series “Emily in Paris” died ​Thursday while on location in Venice,Italy,preparing for filming of the fifth‌ season. He has ⁤been identified as Diego Borella, 47.

According to Italian news outlet​ La Repubblica, Borella collapsed in front of colleagues at the Hotel⁤ Danieli around 19:00 local‍ time (18:00 BST).‌ Medical personnel were called to⁢ the ‌scene but were unable to revive him.

“We are deeply ‌saddened ⁢to‌ confirm the sudden passing ⁢of a member of the ‘Emily in Paris’ production family,” a spokesperson ⁣for Paramount Television Studios, which produces ‍the show for Netflix, stated to BBC News. “Our hearts go out⁢ to the individual’s family and loved ones during this incredibly challenging time.”

La Repubblica reported that on-set medical staff attempted to provide treatment before ​Borella ⁢was pronounced dead at the scene. Filming was temporarily suspended following‌ the incident.

“Emily in Paris,” a romantic comedy series, premiered in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic and quickly gained⁤ popularity. The show stars Lily Collins as Emily Cooper, an American marketing executive working in Paris. The fourth season, released in‌ 2024, saw Emily’s work take‍ her to Rome to establish a new⁤ office.

The series also ⁣features philippine Leroy-Beaulieu as Sylvie, Ashley Park as Mindy, Lucas Bravo as Gabriel, and Lucien Laviscount as ‌Alfie. The‍ fifth season is scheduled to be released later in 2024.
