Assistant Director Dies on ‘Emily in Paris’ Set in Venice
An assistant director working on the Netflix series “Emily in Paris” died Thursday while on location in Venice,Italy,preparing for filming of the fifth season. He has been identified as Diego Borella, 47.
According to Italian news outlet La Repubblica, Borella collapsed in front of colleagues at the Hotel Danieli around 19:00 local time (18:00 BST). Medical personnel were called to the scene but were unable to revive him.
“We are deeply saddened to confirm the sudden passing of a member of the ‘Emily in Paris’ production family,” a spokesperson for Paramount Television Studios, which produces the show for Netflix, stated to BBC News. “Our hearts go out to the individual’s family and loved ones during this incredibly challenging time.”
La Repubblica reported that on-set medical staff attempted to provide treatment before Borella was pronounced dead at the scene. Filming was temporarily suspended following the incident.
“Emily in Paris,” a romantic comedy series, premiered in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic and quickly gained popularity. The show stars Lily Collins as Emily Cooper, an American marketing executive working in Paris. The fourth season, released in 2024, saw Emily’s work take her to Rome to establish a new office.
The series also features philippine Leroy-Beaulieu as Sylvie, Ashley Park as Mindy, Lucas Bravo as Gabriel, and Lucien Laviscount as Alfie. The fifth season is scheduled to be released later in 2024.
