Elon Musk Backs Far-Right AfD Party Ahead of German Elections, Warns of Germany‘s “End”
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has publicly voiced support for the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in the lead-up too the North Rhine-Westphalia local elections. Musk asserted,via a post on social media platform X,that Germany faces a dire future if it does not choose the AfD.
The world’s one of the richest individuals, Musk’s intervention marks a renewed involvement in German politics. he previously expressed support for the AfD, a right-populist party, before the North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) state elections on September 4th.
In his X post, musk referenced the “Fairness Agreement” signed in Cologne. He stated,”germany either chooses AfD or the end of Germany.” This agreement saw seven parties commit to refrain from negative campaigning focused on immigration; the AfD did not participate in this pledge.
Musk made a similar declaration prior to Germany’s early general elections in February, stating, “Germany can only save itself with AfD,” which drew significant criticism from the German public. The AfD demonstrated gains in previous NRW elections, notably in cities like Gelsenkirchen and Duisburg, increasing its vote share to 24.6 percent, surpassing the Social Democratic Party (SPD).
