Rare Double Blessing: Élodie Gossuin Navigates Empty Nest as Twins Embark on University Life, Highlighting the Uncommon Phenomenon of Twin Pregnancies
PARIS – Former Miss France Élodie Gossuin is experiencing a bittersweet milestone as her eldest children, twins Jules and Rose, have left home for university. The emotional departure underscores a remarkable aspect of Gossuin’s family life: she is a mother of two sets of twins, a relatively rare occurrence that has shaped her family dynamic for over a decade.
Gossuin revealed her feelings on Instagram, expressing a poignant mix of pride and sadness as her “BBs” begin their academic journeys. Rose is pursuing a STAPS license in the Parisian suburbs, while Jules attends business school in Reims. “Personally, I already hate you… My BB, you go from the house, I don’t know how too do it,” she wrote, accompanying the message with photos of her children.
The twins’ departure marks a significant shift for the family, prompting Gossuin to reflect on rebuilding a “new rhythm” with her remaining two children. “I can’t imagine how we’re going to do to rebuild on four,” she admitted. despite the emotional challenge, she is proactively planning dedicated time with each child to ease the transition.
Gossuin’s experience brings into focus the statistical rarity of experiencing twin pregnancies twice. While the exact odds vary based on factors like genetics, ethnicity, and maternal age, the chances of conceiving twins naturally are approximately 1 in 250. To then conceive another set of twins is significantly less common, estimated at around 1 in 700,000.
Gossuin herself expressed a long-held desire for gemellity – the occurrence of twins – even before becoming a mother. In a 2013 interview, she stated,”Gemellity has always been an ideal for me.” Her husband, Bertrand, humorously acknowledged the logistical implications at the time, joking about needing a minivan to accommodate their growing family.
Both sets of twins arrived after Gossuin and her husband welcomed their first children in 2007. Jules and Rose passed their baccalaureate in June 2025, paving the way for their current university pursuits. Despite the distance - Reims and the Parisian suburbs are both within driving distance of their family home in the Oise – Gossuin assures her children, “I wish you the best of everything. And I will be there, always, ready. I love you madly more than to the moon and back.”
Even as the house feels “a little more empty,” Gossuin maintains a positive outlook, concluding with a simple yet powerful sentiment: “Life is lovely.”
