Egypt Chemical Exports to China Surge 678% to $287m in 8 Months
Egypt’s chemical and fertilizer exports to China climbed to $287 million during the first eight months of 2026, marking a 678 percent surge from $37 million during the same period in the previous year, dailynewsegypt.com reported.
Surging Chinese Demand Drives Sector Growth
The $250 million increase substantially outpaced overall sector export growth of 30.2%. Total Egyptian chemicals and fertilisers exports reached approximately $8.25 billion between January and August 2026. The top ten export destinations collectively accounted for 56 percent of total shipments during the reporting period. China now represents roughly 3.5 percent of total sector exports, securing a position among the ten largest markets for Egyptian chemical products.
India emerged as another fast-growing destination alongside China during the eight-month window. Purchases by Indian buyers climbed 325 percent to nearly $627 million. Despite the rapid ascent in transaction values, the specific products driving the sharp increase in Chinese purchases have not been disclosed.
Upcoming Canton Fair Participation Targets New Commercial Partnerships
Capitalizing on the upward trade trajectory, the Egyptian Export Council for Chemical Industries and Fertilizers is preparing to participate in the 140th edition of the Canton Fair. The trade event is scheduled for October 23-27, 2026, in Guangzhou. The council will occupy a joint national pavilion after several years of absence from the exhibition.
The participation is coordinated alongside the Egyptian General Authority for International Exhibitions and Conferences and the Egyptian Commercial Office in Beijing. Khaled Abu El-Makarim, Chairperson of the Egyptian Export Council for Chemical Industries and Fertilizers, noted that the initiative aims to expand local exporters’ access to international markets. The pavilion will host manufacturers of glass tableware, decorative glass products, and plastic household goods, allowing them to showcase industrial goods directly to international buyers and distributors.
“Achieving exports worth $287m to the Chinese market, with growth of 678% compared with the same period last year, reflects a significant improvement in the sector’s export performance and confirms the existence of real opportunities to strengthen the presence of Egyptian products in international markets,” Abu El-Makarim said, according to dailynewsegypt.com.
The cooperation between industrial councils and trade authorities is designed to help Egyptian companies better understand Chinese market demand. For local manufacturers, the immediate operational test involves converting these initial trade fair contacts and stronger purchasing momentum into recurring commercial contracts while maintaining price competitiveness against established Asian suppliers.
