Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift Reconnected for Hours After He Found Out About Her Engagement on Instagram
Pop superstar Taylor Swift and singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran shared a four-hour conversation after Sheeran learned of Swift’s engagement to Joe Alwyn via Instagram, Swift revealed during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy fallon. The close friends, known for their frequent collaborations and enduring bond, had a significant lapse in direct communication due to Sheeran’s unconventional approach to technology.
Swift explained to Fallon that she and Alwyn considered their inner circle-her “absolute favourite people on the planet”-before publicly announcing their engagement. Realizing they’d overlooked Sheeran prompted a moment of panic. ”Then, when the news came out I was like, ‘Oh my God we forgot to call Ed! Oh no!'” she said. The reason for the oversight? Sheeran famously doesn’t own a smartphone.
Sheeran confirmed Swift’s account on TikTok, writing, “Hello from my allotted iPad time, this is factual.” Though, in a recent interview with access Hollywood, Sheeran revealed he’s as moved away from even limited tablet use. “I’ve actually got rid of the iPad as well,” he stated. “So I’m not on anything anymore.”
Despite his limited digital footprint, the connection between Swift and Sheeran remains strong. “He’s like family. I love him,” Swift told Fallon, highlighting the depth of their long-term friendship. Their conversation underscores the importance of personal connection,even-and perhaps especially-in an age dominated by social media announcements.
Fans can currently watch Sheeran in One Shot with Ed Sheeran, available on Netflix.
