EasyJet Spain Cabin Crew to Strike Over Pay Disparity
A three-day strike is planned by EasyJet’s cabin staff in Spain, igniting concerns about potential flight disruptions. The USO union is spearheading this action, citing pay discrepancies between Spanish crews and those in other European countries.
Strike Dates and Locations
The USO union announced that the industrial action will occur from Wednesday, June 25, through Friday, June 27. More than 650 flight attendants are expected to participate, based in the Spanish cities of Alicante, Barcelona, Malaga, and Palma de Mallorca.
The union has stated the primary goal of the strike is “to level the crews’ working and wage conditions in Spain with the ones at other bases of the company in Europe.”
Airline Response
Despite the union’s announcement, **easyJet** has stated its intention to maintain normal operations. The airline hopes to minimize any travel interruptions resulting from the strike. A spokesperson mentioned that the airline employs staff in eight different countries with localized terms and conditions.
Spanish regulations require airline workers to provide a minimum service during industrial action to decrease travel interference.
According to the International Labour Organization, Spain saw a 7.7% increase in the number of strikes in 2023, suggesting a rising trend in labor actions (ILO).
