East Texas oil Museum Celebrates 45 Years, Reflects on RegionS Boomtide History
Kilgore, TX – The East Texas Oil Museum at Kilgore College will mark a meaningful milestone this Friday, October 3rd, with a 45th-anniversary celebration. The event coincides with the 95th anniversary of a pivotal moment in Texas history: the discovery of oil at the Daisy Bradford No. 3 well. This single well ignited the East texas Oil Boom, dramatically reshaping the region’s economy, population, and cultural landscape.
The boom’s impact was so profound that it directly led to the founding of Kilgore College, established to serve the rapidly growing community drawn to the oil fields. Today, the museum stands as a testament to this transformative period, preserving and interpreting the stories of the men and women who fueled the nation.
To commemorate the dual anniversaries, the museum will offer remarkably affordable admission - harking back to its opening day – with entry priced at just $1 for adults (12+) and 50 cents for children (ages 2-11).Doors will be open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM,with the last admission granted at 4:00 PM. Kilgore College employees will enjoy complimentary access.
Visitors can explore a special exhibit dedicated to the museum’s own history, showcasing its evolution through renovations and expansions over the past four and a half decades.
“This anniversary is a chance to not only celebrate the museum itself, but to honor the legacy of the oil field and the community it built,” said Michelle benton,Museum supervisor. “We invite everyone to join us in remembering the past and looking ahead to the future of this vital part of Texas history.”
