Sus Emden Table Tennis Tournament Celebrates Community and Fun

Emden, Germany – The spirit of camaraderie and enjoyment took center stage at the recent two-person table tennis tournament hosted by Sus Emden. The event saw 48 players from ten clubs across the East Frisian table tennis districts of Emden, Aurich, and Leer gather at the Herrentorhalle for a day of friendly competition.

The tournament, organized by Günter Reemtsma, featured four distinct classes, notably omitting the typical competitive ranking lists to emphasize a relaxed atmosphere. Participants engaged in a format that included one doubles match and two singles matches per pairing. This approach allowed players to focus on the joy of the game and interaction.

In the district-level competition, the duo of Falk Roming and Andre Hansen from TuS Hinte emerged victorious, followed by martijn Hooghiemstra and Philipp Dorndorf of Teutonia Stapelmoor. The district league title was claimed by Dirk Tammen and Harald Schumann of WT Loppersum, with their clubmates Arne janssen and Helmut bowe securing the runner-up position. Within the district class,Wahab Dashteky and Frank Gaupels, representing the host club SuS Emden, triumphed over the cross-club pairing of Uwe zakobielski (TuS Weene) and Hans-Udo Tjaden (WT Lopsum). The mixed doubles category saw Marina Markus and Max van der Laan of Teutonia Stapelmoor take the win, ahead of their club colleagues Nicole Zimmer and Sven Reeßing.

The season-ending event concluded with a traditional social gathering featuring a barbecue, fostering further community bonding. The tournament also served as a prosperous fundraiser, with a modest three-figure sum raised for the youth fund of the Sus Emden table tennis division. Looking ahead, the division is preparing to celebrate its 45th anniversary on Saturday, September 13th, at the Herrentorhalle. All current and former players, along with their families and friends, are warmly invited to join the festivities.
