Tsunami advisories have been issued across South America, impacting nations such as Peru, Chile, Mexico, and the Galapagos Islands off the coast of Ecuador. Popular tourist areas within the Galapagos have been closed, with the ecuadorian government indicating a “high probability” of tsunami impacts on its coastline.
In Colombia, a red tsunami warning is in effect for the Chocó region. President Gustavo Petro shared a directive on X, ordering immediate evacuation of beaches and low-lying areas in Chocó.
The Philippines, indonesia, and China have also issued tsunami warnings.
On July 20th, a notable earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 struck off the Kamchatka Peninsula, prompting a tsunami warning. Kamchatka is an area known for its seismic and volcanic activity,situated within the Pacific Ring of Fire.
