EarFun Air Pro 4 Plus: Affordable Earbuds with Real-Time Translation

by Rachel Kim – Technology Editor

EarFun, a rapidly growing audio accessory brand, is challenging the dominance of tech giants like Apple and Google with its new Air Pro 4 Plus earbuds, offering live translation capabilities at a significantly lower price point than the $249 AirPods Pro 3 or the $199 Google Pixel Buds Pro 2.

The Air Pro 4 Plus, typically retailing for $99.99, are currently available for $74.99 at Amazon with a promotional code (AP4PPR01), according to EarFun. This price positions them as a compelling alternative for consumers seeking advanced features like real-time language translation without the premium cost.

While Google’s Pixel Buds Pro 2 utilize Gemini for translation, EarFun has developed its own AI-powered translation system, supporting over 145 languages and regions, with plans to expand language availability based on user requests. The feature requires a stable internet connection and the latest versions of the EarFun app (20.1.36 for Android and 20.5.5 for iOS).

EarFun’s translation feature operates in two modes: “Face-to-Face,” designed for back-and-forth conversations between two speakers, and “Real-Time,” which provides immediate translation of spoken language. Both modes allow users to save transcripts of the translated conversations.

Early reviews suggest the Real-Time mode performs comparably to Google Translate, provided speakers articulate clearly and maintain a moderate pace. A reviewer at Android Central, Namerah Saud Fatmi, noted the Real-Time mode is “on par with Google’s real-time conversation translation.”

Beyond translation, the Air Pro 4 Plus boast a robust feature set including Bluetooth 6 and Auracast support, active noise cancellation (ANC), hi-res audio, LDAC codec support, wireless charging, and an IP55 water and dust resistance rating. The earbuds utilize 10mm dynamic drivers paired with FeatherBA drivers and a Qualcomm QCC3091 chip with aptX Lossless Audio.

Currently, the AI translation feature is exclusive to the Air Pro 4 Plus model, though EarFun is evaluating the possibility of extending it to other products in its lineup. The earbuds offer up to 54 hours of battery life without ANC enabled, and 60mAh batteries in each earbud, paired with a 600mAh charging case.
