Suriname National Team Closes Door on Forward Dylan Vente: “This Far and No further”
PARAMARIBO, SURINAME – SC Heerenveen striker Dylan Vente will not feature in upcoming Suriname national team matches, and director of Football Affairs Brian Tevreden has stated definitively that the door is closed to the player’s future international participation. The announcement comes at a critical juncture for Suriname, currently leading Group A in their quest to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup – a historic opportunity for the nation.
tevreden’s firm stance, reported initially by Nation and further detailed by the Suriname Herald, effectively ends Vente’s short international career with Suriname, which included four appearances, most recently a 15-minute stint against Canada on November 20, 2024, in a 3-0 defeat. Vente will be absent for crucial upcoming matches against El Salvador on Thursday evening at 11 p.m. (Dutch time) and an away fixture against Guatemala next Wednesday at 2 a.m.
while Tevreden remained tight-lipped regarding the specific reasons for the decision, he offered a pointed description regarding commitment. “If you choose to represent a country, you must support it 100 percent,” Tevreden stated. “We respect it if you say you don’t want to do it. But other things have also happened where I say: this far and no further.”
The ambiguity surrounding the ”other things” has fueled speculation, but Tevreden offered no further clarification.
Under the guidance of national coach Stanley Menzo, suriname currently holds a strong position in Group A, bolstering their chances of securing a coveted spot in the World Cup. The team’s performance in the upcoming matches will be pivotal in realizing that ambition, now without the contribution of Vente.
