Ukraine Launches Large-Scale Drone strike Targeting Moscow adn Russian Oil Facilities
KYIV, Ukraine – Ukraine launched a widespread drone attack targeting Moscow and several Russian oil facilities early Friday, marking a significant escalation in Kyiv’s long-range strike capabilities. The assault, confirmed by Russian officials, reportedly involved dozens of drones and aimed to disrupt Russia‘s energy infrastructure and demonstrate Ukraine’s ability to reach deep inside Russian territory.
the coordinated strikes come as Ukraine continues to receive substantial military aid from Western allies, bolstering its capacity for offensive operations. While the full extent of the damage remains unclear, the attacks signal a shift in Ukraine’s strategy, possibly aiming to pressure Moscow both economically and militarily as the conflict enters its second winter. The incident also raises concerns about potential retaliatory actions from Russia and the broader implications for regional security.
According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, 32 drones were intercepted overnight, with several crashing in the Moscow region. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that several buildings in the city sustained minor damage, and two people sought medical attention.
The most substantial damage appears to have been inflicted on oil facilities. Reports indicate strikes targeted refineries and storage facilities in the Ryazan, Rostov, and Krasnodar regions. Self-reliant analysts estimate these facilities account for roughly 10-15% of Russia’s total refining capacity.
“There were attacks on several regions of the country,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters Friday.”our military is analyzing the situation.”
News of the attacks follows a recent incident on Sept. 11 in which russian drones reportedly headed for Rzeszow Airport, a key logistics hub for aid to Ukraine, were shot down. Former U.S. President Donald Trump, when asked about the incursion, suggested it “could have been a mistake,” adding, “but nonetheless, I’m not happy with anything to do with that whole situation.”
