Drake Addresses ‍”Culture Vulture” Criticism, Says Label Feels “Unfair”

Toronto, ON – Drake has publicly addressed ongoing‌ criticism labeling⁢ him a‌ “culture vulture,” stating the accusations are particularly sensitive for him and misrepresent his artistic intentions. The rapper shared his feelings during an‌ appearance on Bobbi Althoff’s podcast, “Not this Again,” a reunion following a previously deleted 2023 interview.

Drake explained he often feels unfairly blamed and that⁤ his collaborations are consistently viewed through a negative⁣ lens. “People‌ will be like, ‘Oh, you’re a culture⁢ vulture,’ or people will describe⁣ the collaborative efforts that I’ve put forth…as me taking,” he said, adding that he‌ feels the criticism stings. He maintains his collaborations are genuine efforts to “lift up” and “shine a light on” other artists.

The discussion resurfaced following Kendrick Lamar’s 2023 diss tracks, “euphoria” and “Not⁣ Like us,” which ignited a broader debate regarding Drake’s role and influence within Hip‍ Hop culture.

Beyond music, Drake also reflected on his early career, previewing footage from the ‌upcoming documentary Degrassi: Whatever It Takes, revisiting his role on the Canadian teen drama that launched his career. The documentary ⁢will premiere at the Toronto international Film Festival on September 13.
