Indonesian Parliament Urges Parties to Deactivate Problematic Members
Jakarta,August 31,2025 – The Honorary Court of the Indonesian Parliament (MKD) is calling on chairpersons of political parties to swiftly deactivate members of the DPR (People’s Representative Council) facing issues,a move intended to uphold the integrity of the legislative body. MKD Chairperson Nazaruddin Dek Gam emphasized the importance of removing problematic members to safeguard the reputation of the parliament.
The call for deactivation comes as the MKD seeks to hold DPR members accountable for misconduct and maintain public trust. according to Nazaruddin, deactivation is not merely symbolic; members stripped of their status will lose all associated parliamentary facilities and benefits. “If it has been deactivated, it means they can no longer move as members of the DPR,” Nazaruddin told reporters.”By deactivated, they automatically cannot get facilities or benefits as members of the Indonesian Parliament.”
Nazaruddin stressed that the MKD will continue to push for firm action from political parties. He warned that a lack of response could lead to public perception that the DPR is not serious about maintaining its honor. “If there is no step from political parties, the public can judge this DPR this is not serious about maintaining its honor,” he stated. The move underscores a growing concern within the Indonesian Parliament to address issues of ethics and accountability among its members. The MKD’s request signals a desire to empower political parties to take greater responsibility for the conduct of their representatives and ensure the DPR operates with integrity.
