DoorDash Driver Shot During Delivery in Boston’s Brighton Neighborhood

Boston, MA – A DoorDash driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries after being shot while making a delivery on Faneuil Street in Boston’s Brighton neighborhood Friday night. The incident occurred around 11:40 p.m.

A 14-year-old witness, identified as Jenny, was present with her 7-year-old sister when the shooting took place. She had ordered food from Outback Steakhouse and stepped outside too collect her delivery. According to Jenny, the driver was bending down to photograph the food when two gunshots, described as sounding like fireworks, were heard. The driver then fell to the ground, clutching his stomach.

“It was super scary,” Jenny recounted. “He was bending over to take a picture of the food, and that’s when we heard, I guess, two loud gunshots like fireworks, and he just fell to the ground, and he was holding his stomach. And he was rolling on the ground.” Her immediate reaction was to protect her younger sister.

The injured DoorDash driver was transported to a local hospital.Jenny’s mother, Castillo, expressed relief that her daughters were unharmed but shared concerns about the impact on her children’s sense of security. “We couldn’t sleep, my girls now they don’t feel safe here,” Castillo stated. “They just came out of the door and who would expect anything to happen?”

The shooting occurred directly across the street from a playground.On saturday, police presence was visible in the area as the investigation continued. The family residing near the scene emphasized their gratitude that no one else was injured.

“Sad and we need to be more alert,” Castillo commented, urging law enforcement to apprehend those responsible for creating an unsafe surroundings. “I hope the police are trying to find the people who are making our community not safe. We live in front of a park, and we want to feel safe, and we want our kids to feel safe.”

Jenny shared her profound sense of gratitude for her safety. “I’m super grateful. I was literally thanking God in every possible way that I am OK and my sister is OK,” she said. “I just want to get out that gun violence needs to stop because a lot of people not only lose their family members, their friends, people close to them. And not only does it hurt the person getting shot, it can also hurt the people around them a lot.”

Authorities are actively investigating the shooting, and no arrests have been made at this time.
