Donald Trump criticized the NFLS selection of Bad bunny as this year’s Super bowl halftime performer, calling the choice “absolutely ridiculous” in an interview with Newsmax’s Greg kelly on Monday night. The former president stated, “I don’t know who he is. I don’t know why thay’re doing it – it’s, like, crazy,” and attributed the decision to a promoter hired for entertainment.
The NFL selects Super Bowl halftime performers in collaboration with Apple Music and Roc Nation, the entertainment company founded by Jay-Z. Bad Bunny, a three-time Grammy Award winner, was announced as the performer for the February 8th game in Santa Clara, California, in late September. He will be the first Latin-American male to headline the event. His moast recent album,”Debí Tirar Más Fotos,” was released in January.
The criticism follows Bad Bunny’s earlier public condemnation of Trump’s immigration policies. The artist expressed concerns about potential ICE raids at his U.S. concert venues and consequently excluded stops in the continental United States from his latest tour.Following the Super Bowl performance announcement, Corey Lewandowski, chief adviser to Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, stated on “The Benny Show” that ICE agents would be present at the game, vowing to apprehend and deport individuals in the country illegally. Secretary Noem echoed these sentiments on the same program, dismissing the NFL’s choice as unfavorable.
Zaileen Janmohamed, president and CEO of the Bay Area Host Committee, previously expressed confidence that Bad Bunny would deliver “an unforgettable experience” and showcase the Bay Area’s diversity. The NFL has not yet responded to requests for comment.
