Doja Cat Expresses Renewed Confidence Ahead of ‘Vie‘ Album Release
Doja Cat shared insights into her creative evolution and forthcoming album, Vie, in a recent interview with CBS news Sunday Morning. Set to release on Friday, september 26, Vie follows her 2023 project, Scarlet, and marks a period of self-assuredness for the multi-award-winning artist.
Despite past successes including numerous hit singles and Grammy awards, Doja Cat admits to periods of self-doubt. Tho, she now feels a strong sense of pride and excitement regarding her current work. “I’m very proud of the music I’m making now,” Doja Cat told CBS host Michelle Miller. “I’m very excited because it’s things I wasn’t able to do before.”
The rapper explained she has overcome previous vocal limitations. “I used to joke about that….I used to pretend to [sing]. And then I just sucked it up and stopped joking so much and took myself more seriously,” she said, noting she hadn’t been able to ”hit certain riffs or runs” in the past. She announced Vie on Instagram in July, writing “Je sais que tu es ma vie 🥖 Vie out 9/26,” which translates to “I know you are my life.”
Doja Cat also reflected on Scarlet, describing it as a necesary release.”Not to diminish it, but it was a bit of like, I just need to get this out,” she told The New York Times. She previously felt pressure to prove her skills as an MC, following the success of albums like Hot Pink (2019) and Planet Her (2021), but now feels ready to “return” to her core musical strengths. She added that while she enjoyed performing Scarlet onstage, it didn’t fully satisfy her artistic goals.
