The victory wasn’t just a step closer to a potential 25th Grand Slam title; it also saw the Serbian star break multiple longevity records,demonstrating an unprecedented level of sustained success at the highest level of the sport.
Djokovic’s dominant performance against Struff marked the ninth time he has reached the quarterfinals of all four Grand Slam tournaments in a single year (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2021, 2023, and now 2025). This achievement surpasses Roger Federer‘s previous record and stands alone in the annals of tennis, with no female player having yet accomplished the same feat. He also established a new personal best as the oldest player to reach the quarterfinals of all four majors in the same season, at 38 years and 108 days, surpassing his previous record set in 2023. Serena Williams holds the second-highest age at which a player reached this stage, at 34 years and 350 days in 2016.
Beyond the immediate tournament, Djokovic’s win further extended his already notable grand Slam statistics. He now boasts 64 quarterfinal qualifications across all major tournaments, surpassing Roger Federer’s 58. This latest appearance comes 34 years after Jimmy Connors, then 39, reached the US Open quarterfinals in 1991. More recently, Roger Federer was the last player of comparable age to reach a Grand Slam quarterfinal, achieving the feat at Wimbledon in 2021.
Awaiting Djokovic in the quarterfinals is Taylor Fritz, a matchup were the Serbian holds a commanding 10-0 head-to-head record, including five victories on outdoor courts. Fritz is now one of only five players to have lost every match against Djokovic, joining Andreas Seppi (12-0), Milos Raonic (12-0), Jérémy chardy (14-0), and Gaël Monfils, who has fallen to Djokovic in all 20 of their encounters.
