Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro Outlines Vision for Stability and Growth at D23

August 15, 2026 Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor Entertainment

Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro signaled a new era for the media conglomerate at the D23 fan event in August 2026, pledging to prioritize storytelling and rapid technological integration. The speech focused on stabilizing Disney’s growth across its theme parks and global streaming divisions.

The Strategic Pivot Under New Leadership

Almost six months into his tenure as Chief Executive, Josh D’Amaro is attempting to steer The Walt Disney Company toward a period of internal clarity and operational stability. Succeeding Bob Iger in March, D’Amaro faces the dual challenge of satisfying Wall Street investors while maintaining the high production standards expected by the company’s dedicated fan base. According to his interview with CNBC, D’Amaro acknowledges that the company’s stock performance—down more than 8% over the past 12 months—has not met investor expectations, even as the parks and streaming segments continue to drive profitability.

For Disney, the primary business challenge remains the integration of its disparate units into a singular, cohesive ecosystem. D’Amaro describes this goal as “One Disney,” an effort to make the consumer experience—from watching content on Disney+ to purchasing merchandise—entirely seamless. This strategy relies heavily on the company’s intellectual property (IP), which remains the bedrock of both its box office success and its theme park experiences.

Monetizing the Streaming Ecosystem

Disney+ represents the most significant variable in D’Amaro’s long-term growth plan. While the service has achieved tremendous international scale, the executive team is now looking for ways to maximize lifetime value per subscriber. D’Amaro confirmed that the company is actively considering a free, ad-supported streaming product, which would function as a “front porch” to attract new viewers who might eventually convert to paid subscriptions.

Rather than focusing solely on subscriber acquisition, Disney is looking at how to integrate e-commerce and fan engagement directly into the viewing platform.

Theme Parks and Macroeconomic Headwinds

The parks division, which D’Amaro led as chairman of Disney Experiences prior to his appointment as CEO, remains a “big surprise” in terms of its resilience against current macroeconomic pressures. Despite volatility in consumer spending, the segment continues to perform well. However, D’Amaro remains cautious regarding future price hikes. Instead of immediate ticket increases, he has signaled a preference for continued investment in destination experiences, aiming to ensure that the value proposition of a Disney vacation remains high enough to justify the cost.

The Future of the Disney Brand

D’Amaro’s address at D23 was intended to reassure the “Disney faithful” that the company’s core identity will not be lost to corporate restructuring. By emphasizing speed and urgency, the CEO is attempting to modernize the company’s internal culture to better compete with agile tech-first platforms.
