Discover the Diverse Lineup of Trans Musicales de Rennes 2024
The Rencontres Trans Musicales de Rennes will run from December 2 to December 6, featuring a lineup of roughly one hundred artists spanning genres from garage and metal to rock and electro, Radio France reported.
Diverse Performers Blend Traditional Styles with Modern Genres
Organizers have assembled a geographically diverse roster for the early December festival. Irish performer Tadhg Griffin, performing under the stage name SexyTadhg, brings a queer theatrical aesthetic to traditional Gaelic Sean-nos singing, mixing reels and jigs with pop, rock, disco, funk, and glam elements. Meanwhile, Spanish producer and singer Bella Báguena explores her identity as a trans non-binary artist through electronic soundscapes that draw on 1990s nostalgia and Internet culture.
The Wild Classical Music Ensemble, which features musicians with and without disabilities, continues a creative partnership sparked in 2024 when they met local musicians on Réunion Island. That encounter with the traditional maloya and sega scenes led to ongoing work with the Réunion group Fournèz. Another cross-continental project, KOKOKO!, brings together French producer Débruit and Congolese singer Makara Bianko—a partnership formed in Kinshasa in 2016. Their newest material draws inspiration from New Orleans, incorporating street recordings, local bounce music, and the TBC Brass Band.
Electronic and Noise Acts Bring Experimental Sounds
The bill features several boundary-pushing electronic and noise acts from across Europe and Asia. Rotterdam underground trio Fellatio brings what they term “post avant-garde krautpop disco punk,” while Oslo’s Fuzzycat Organ Quartet pairs noise rock and fuzz keyboards with the vocals of singer Synne Hellebø. Taipei electronic underground figure FTK presents his conceptual album 5ENOM, which explores Chinese folklore regarding the Gu poison legend through a blend of traditional instruments and contemporary electronics. Additional international acts include Slovak psych-rock quintet Tolstoys, Belgian electronic duo HATIHATI, and New York Bronxcore collective Planta Industrial.
