dipika Kakar’s Liver Cancer Recovery: Tumor Markers Normal, But Hair Loss persists
Mumbai, India – September 26, 2024 – In a hopeful update for fans, actress Dipika Kakar has announced her tumor markers have returned to normal following treatment for stage 2 liver cancer. The Sasural Simar Ka star shared the positive news in a recent YouTube blog, indicating a notable step forward in her recovery journey.
However, Kakar also revealed she continues to experience side effects from her treatment, most notably significant hair loss. “The three-month report of the tumour markers is normal,” she explained. “Since they are very normal, there is no need to do the FAPI scan until two more months because the tumour markers are much more sensitive in nature.”
Despite the encouraging report, Kakar described the emotional toll of ongoing hair loss. “Hairfall is scary…When I come out of the shower, I don’t talk at least for 15 minutes because hairfall is a lot. That is fearful for me,” she shared, adding that aside from this, “rest everything is fine.”
The actress also briefly mentioned that her husband, shoaib Ibrahim, has been unwell due to changing weather conditions.
Why Hair Loss is Common After Cancer Treatment
Kakar’s experience with hair loss is sadly common among cancer patients. Dr. Meghal Sanghavi, an oncosurgeon at Wockhardt Hospitals in Mumbai, explained that hair loss and fatigue are frequently observed side effects, even after the cancer itself is under control.
“They are not always linked to the tumour itself but to the medications used, such as chemotherapy, targeted therapy, or certain oral drugs,” Dr. Sanghavi stated.”These treatments attack fast-growing cells, and unfortunately, hair follicles are included in that group. So even with positive reports and the cancer under control, patients can still experience side effects because the body is healing from the effects of the therapy.”
