Diablo II: Resurrected has received a major update with the release of the “Reign of the Warlock” downloadable content, introducing the game’s first modern playable class in 25 years.
The Warlock, described as a “dark scholar,” allows players to wield forbidden magic and bind demons, offering a new approach to combat within the classic action role-playing game. Players can specialize in one of three distinct skill trees: Demon, Eldritch, and Chaos. The Demon path focuses on enslaving and commanding demonic allies, while Eldritch channels mental magic into weapons, imbuing them with destructive hexes. The Chaos specialization allows players to harness the power of fire and shadow for ranged elemental attacks.
Alongside the new class, “Reign of the Warlock” introduces a host of new content, including unique items, sets, and runewords designed to expand build possibilities for all classes. A new “Chronicle” system tracks player progress and displays all items collected across their account. The update also revamps Terror Zones, giving players more control over where and how they progress through challenges.
Endgame content has been significantly expanded with the return of Colossal Ancients, described as extremely challenging encounters for advanced players. Quality-of-life improvements include a customizable loot filter, additional stash tabs dedicated to gems, materials, and runes, and the ability to switch between classic and modern visual styles.
The Warlock utilizes demonic binding skills to enslave demons like Goatmen and Tainted Defilers, who then fight alongside the player. These demons possess unique abilities and can be enhanced through the Warlock’s skills. Players can also choose to consume their enslaved demons, draining their life force to augment their own abilities.
“Reign of the Warlock” is available now as a DLC for Diablo II: Resurrected and costs €24.
