Devīze & Arturs Gruzdiņš Release New Single “Dienesta Romāns” | X-Factor Collaboration

Rūjiena, Latvia – A Latvian musical group formerly known as “Melnā Straume” (Black Stream) has rebranded as “Devīze” (Motto) and released a new single, “Dienesta romāns” (Office Romance), in collaboration with Arturs Gruzdiņš, the winner of the first season of the Latvian demonstrate “X Faktors.” The single’s release marks a new chapter for the band and a reunion of sorts with Gruzdiņš, who similarly hails from Rūjiena.

The song, penned by Gruzdiņš, explores themes of relationships, the desire for stability, and the internal conflict between security and excitement, according to statements released by the artists. Gruzdiņš explained that when he learned of the young musicians from his hometown pursuing music, he felt the song, written a couple of years prior, was ready to be brought to life through their interpretation. “Using the youth’s passion for rock music and a touch of pop, the song takes on the right colors, allowing the story to come alive,” he said.

The band’s transition from “Melnā Straume” to “Devīze” was a deliberate decision, according to vocalist Astra Muižniece. “The new stage name reflects both us as individuals and our journey in music, as everyone has their own perspective, but we feel that the name suits us and helps us feel united,” she stated.

The collaboration with Gruzdiņš came about somewhat spontaneously, with producer Klāvs Skujiņš playing a key role. “Devīzes” guitarist Toms Dimitris recounted receiving a call with an offer for a new song. “I greatly respected Arturs and Klāvs and saw this as an experience that would open new horizons for our music,” he said.

A music video has also been created for “Dienesta romāns,” with a visual concept centered around the symbolism of the color white – representing innocence and purity. The band members actively participated in the creation of the video, spending evenings constructing and painting the sets.

“Devīze” will debut the single at the “Nemiera blice” (Restlessness Flash) competition on February 21st at the Kultūras nams “Atmoda” (Awakening Cultural Center). They are also scheduled to perform as the opening act for “Tikai Mēs” (Only Us), a group also known from “X Faktors,” at the Angāra koncertzāle (Angar Concert Hall) on April 10th.
