Community Mourns Four Departures

Local and International Obituaries Announced

The community is expressing its sorrow following the announcement of four recent deaths, impacting families across Derry, Ballyronan, Cullion, and extending to Groton, Massachusetts, USA.

Remembering Cherished Lives

Jeannie Forbes, formerly of Derry and late of Groton, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home on July 25, 2025. She was the beloved wife of Robert, devoted mother to Colin and Alana, and a cherished sister to many. Her passing leaves a void felt by her wider family and friends.

James Ian Forsythe of Ballyronan died peacefully on July 27, 2025, at Antrim Area Hospital. He was the dearly beloved husband of Sylvia and a much-loved father to Arlene, Kenneth, and Mark. He was also a loving grandfather to Adam, Lee, and James.

Thomas Hepburn, a former resident of Dullerton Road, Cullion, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025, in Altnagelvin Hospital. He is remembered as a dear son, uncle, and brother. His funeral service will be held at Mountcastle Cemetery on Wednesday, July 30.

Catherine White (née Starrett), formerly of Roe Gardens, Derry, died in Altnagelvin Hospital on July 26, 2025, after bravely enduring an illness. She was the devoted mother of Gretta, Karen, Wilma, and Rosemary, and a loving grandmother to seven and a great-grandmother. Her funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, July 29, at Waterside Presbyterian Church.

Expressions of Sympathy

Messages of condolence are being shared widely, reflecting the deep impact these individuals had on their communities. For example, according to the Irish Association of Funeral Directors, over 3,000 funeral services were conducted across Ireland in 2023, highlighting the continuous cycle of remembrance and community support during times of loss.
