Dermot Kennedy postpones US tour dates after laryngitis diagnosis
Atlanta Specialist Confirms Severe Laryngitis
In a statement shared on Instagram, Irish singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy announced the postponement of the remaining dates of his United States tour after an infection left his vocal cords “very swollen”. The 34-year-old artist consulted a specialist in Atlanta to evaluate ongoing laryngitis.
Long-lasting Damage Risk Forces Hard Decisions
Kennedy explained that despite maintaining vocal rest throughout the week, the infection persisted and left his vocal cords too swollen to perform. According to the artist, forcing himself to continue without complete healing would result in “real long-lasting damage” to his voice. He noted that he cannot make it through a show in his current condition and chose to reschedule rather than deliver a compromised performance.
Five U.S. Cities Left Waiting
The postponement affects five remaining tour stops across the United States. Performances in Atlanta, Georgia, alongside dates in Nashville, Austin, Irving, and Bellvue, are currently suspended. The artist expressed regret over disrupting ticket holders’ travel arrangements and hotel bookings, advising fans to retain their tickets for future rescheduled dates.
Chart-Topping Momentum Halted
Prior to the cancellation, Kennedy expressed appreciation for the reception he received during the tour, noting that the crowds exceeded his expectations. In April, the musician reached a milestone by becoming the first Irish solo artist to achieve number one chart positions with his first three studio albums: Without Fear, Sonder, and The Weight Of The Woods.
Pledging a Return
The singer emphasized that the tour had been his favorite ever and pledged to return once he recovers. While no new dates have been officially announced yet, the artist assured ticket holders that the postponed performances will take place.
