The acclaimed filmmaker takes on the iconic superspy franchise, bringing a fresh perspective.
The next James Bond movie is set to be directed by the highly-regarded Denis Villeneuve, a move that has excited fans. Amazon MGM Studios is behind the project, with Tanya Lapointe serving as an executive producer. Amy Pascal and David Heyman will also be involved as producers.
Villeneuve’s Vision
The director shared his deep connection to the 007 films, and his intention to honor the franchise. He expressed excitement about the opportunity to bring Bond back to the screen.
“Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since ‘Dr. No’ with Sean Connery. I’m a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he’s sacred territory,”

Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, praised Villeneuve, highlighting his skill. He said that the filmmaker’s diverse filmography makes him a perfect fit for the job.
“We are honored that Denis has agreed to direct James Bond’s next chapter. He is a cinematic master, whose filmography speaks for itself. From ‘Blade Runner 2049’ to ‘Arrival’ to the ‘Dune’ films, he has delivered compelling worlds, dynamic visuals, complex characters, and—most importantly—the immersive storytelling that global audiences yearn to experience in theaters.”

The upcoming film is expected to revitalize the franchise after 2021’s “No Time to Die,” which concluded Daniel Craig’s tenure. The Bond films have grossed over $7 billion worldwide, according to Statista 2023.
The Production Team
Amy Pascal and David Heyman are also enthusiastic about the project. They are ready to bring 007 to the screen with Villeneuve.
Villeneuve is well-known for his work on “Dune” and “Blade Runner 2049.” He has also directed movies such as “Arrival” and “Sicario,” demonstrating his ability to handle both original stories and established intellectual property.
Pascal will produce the new Bond film via Pascal Pictures, while Heyman will produce through Heyday Films. Amazon MGM gained creative control of the Bond franchise through a deal with Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.
